ffdshow + vob-files + wmp 11

Hi,

I have a problem with playing vob-files. The files have no dvd-structure and are sitting on my harddisk, so the ifo and bup files are missing.
If I play a vob-file from harddisk which is in a dvd-structure (with ifo and bup-files) the files just play fine in WMP11 through ffdshow (libmpeg2).
I have no other player installed on this computer and would like to avoid installing any other at the moment.
Is there something to turn on/off in ffdshow/wmp to be able to play one vob-file in WMP11 ?

Probably the easiest way around that issue is to recreate the BUP and IFO files using this procedure :

Apologies if that does not answer your question, I was unaware WMP11 had this limitation.

machser, was your error when trying to play the VOB file - Windows Media Player is currently unable to play DVD video. Try decreasing the number of colors displayed on your monitor....and so on..and which makes no sense? If so, then the issue is that WMP doesn't consider 3rd party video decoders (e.g. ffshow video decoder) to be compatible with WMP and MCE. It would insist on having the MS MPEG-2 Video Decoder (aka msmpeg2vdec.dll), which of course doesn't come installed by default on XP (I think that's what you have) or any of the commercial decoders like PowerDVD, WinDVD etc. Vista should have the MS MPEG-2 Video Decoder, so you shouldn't have a problem with Vista.

Easiest (and the recommended) way would be to continue using MPC and not touch WMP ever again.

If you click the "Web Help" button on the error dialog, the URL for the page it takes you to would be helpful to know. I'd suspect that this is some Macrovision-esque 'fun'.

I don't get an error message at all from WMP 10. It just sort of sits there and doesn't play it. Using XP MCE.

if I tell Windows (right-mouse-click on the vob-file and choose 'open with' Windows Media Player) to open the vob-file, WMP will start and recognizes that there is a whole DVD in the same directory (there is a button in WMP called DVD). So far so good. The problem is that there is no picture/video to be seen in WMP window! Sound is to be heard. no picture, but sound = weird...
