View Full Version : AVCHD to Mp4 using Megui for my website?

I am making a website with High Definition fishing videos and I have a few questions. I am using ulead video studio 11 to edit and make changes to the AVCHD files and export them to HDV file type. Do you guys think for the purpose of my website that I should export the files to 1080i HDV or 720p HDV. The original AVCHD files are shot in 1080i. I am using Megui and want to make them as good of quality as possible at a small bitrate. Here is an example of what I am trying to produce. This video is saved in 1080i HDV then downsized through Megui to 1280x720 and then put into a video container of 720x480. You can go into full screen and it’s the full 1280x720. (http://www.steelheadstalkers.com/egg_loop_knot.htm ) This video is encoded at 500kbps and looks pretty good I think. I am using the profile INSANE and here are my settings.

--pass 3 --bitrate 1000 --stats ".stats" --keyint 300 --min-keyint 30 --ref 16 --mixed-refs --no-fast-pskip --bframes 16 --b-pyramid --b-rdo --bime --weightb --direct auto --filter -2,-1 --subme 7 --trellis 2 --partitions all --8x8dct --qpmin 18 --me tesa --merange 64 --threads auto --thread-input --progress --no-dct-decimate --no-psnr --no-ssim --output "output" "input" --aq-strength 1.0 --aq-mode 2

I want to get the best possible quality out of these videos and I feel that there might be something else I can do different to squeeze more quality and lower the file size. I have watched some impressive videos from a guy who does a lot of H.264 encoding and I am wondering of you guys know what he might be doing to get such great quality at low bitrate? Here is a sample video (http://www.progettosinergia.com/flashvideo/flashvideoblog.htm).
These are some of the settings that he is using. ("I use a mix of Ffmpeg, x264, Mencoder and Nero AAC. Here some parameters used:
5 reference frames, 5 B-frames, authomatic B-Frames, B-pyramid enabled, adaptive macroblock type, advanced Trellis on, Subq=7, advanced exagon search, deblocking filter with custom alpha and beta parameter, three pass encoding...")

What can he be doing to make such good quality? I believe that Megui should be able to do everything that he is doing in these videos and more.

Do you guys think that I should convert my AVCHD files to 720p for use in Megui? This would make a smaller file size to start with and might end up a smaller file at the end. Will this make a difference on how much quality I can squeeze out of my files?

When using the 1080i HDV file I have to deinterlace in avisynth. If I use the 720p then it already is deinterlaced. Is there an advangate to using a deinterlaced file compared to interlaced?

When I put files with fishing footage (lots of water moving and faster motion) in Megui I cannot get away with using 500kbps I need to go up to 1500kbps or even 2000kbps. I would like to be able to encode my faster moving footage at 1000kbps or 15000kbps at most for the website. I don’t care how long it takes to encode on my computer so time is not an issue I just want to have the best visual quality at the smallest bitrate. If you have any ideas of how I can make changes to the settings above just let me know. I know I have asked a lot of questions but maybe with all of your combined knowledge you can help. Thanks for all of the help.
