View Full Version : Determining LFE cutoff?

Hello, I have the Inspire 6600 6.1 analog speakers from Creative, and knowing how lovely the chaps at Creative are, I don't think there was any in-depth documentation with it (prolly reserving it for their Gigaworks line).. Now LFE is a bit confusing concept, and I googled for some audio diagnostic software to no avail. How do I determine if my satellite speakers can handle low freq sounds? And what value to set AC3Filter/FFDShow's LFE cutoffs (for expanded stereo signals)? btw I have Realtek AC'97 audio which has its own Subwoofer (not LFE) slider as per latest driver. It's all too confusing! :scared:

LFE is an additional channel made for deepest sound signals
(<30 Hz) in the cinema! There are speakers with 2 meters diameter behind the screen. Most people don't know that.
Do you have such equipment?
No? Then let it be.
THX systems have a SPECIAL boosted LFE speaker. But the specs say that the front speakers have full range!
That's why the Dolby Surround II downmix needs NO LFE.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm only asking about LFE on multimedia PC's not hi-end HiFi equipment. 6-channel AC3 from commercial DVDs has a separate subwoofer channel that's not the same as LFE? Or is the naming conventions overlapped? Again lack of documentation isn't helpful.
