Great In, Bad Out with TMPG

Alright so I'm trying to convert some encodes to .m2v mpeg 2 files with TMPG so that i can make a custom dvd from my encodes. What i have encoded is an anime, Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. A fairly fast paced and action packed series. I have managed to come out with some really high quality encodes with the video raws being about 350mb a piece. They are encoded in xvid in vdub with my own custom filter settings and the video looks wonderful when i play the .avi file that i have. However when i convert the video to a .m2v in TMPG the video comes out looking like ****. And when i say **** i mean like *****. It looks so bad. Is there a way to convert the video to the mpeg 2 format without TMPG trying to do whatever the hell its doing that is messing everything up. Something similar to Vdub's direct stream copy, but only changing the format. If so how? and If not then does anyone have any advice as to why this is happening and what could i do to fix this issue.

Why are you going from DVD to XviD and then back to DVD?

Convert directly from your original DVDs for best quality.

Try FAVC, which uses HCenc as the encoder

What program then would i use to convert straight from ripped .vob files to .m2v files? There's no need to convert at all. VOB contains MPEG2. You could simply demux with DGIndex, for example.

Since you mentioned your dissatisfaction with the conversion output of TMPGEnc - if you use TMPGEnc to demultiplex the desired streams, your output will be identical to your input:

TMPGEnc>>File>>MPEGTools>>Demultiplex

ReJig can easily demux and/or transcode from vob (DVD structure) to m2v
