Some software that I want to use seems to require FFDShow. But if I install that then I find my h.264 encodes come out all flickery and flashy. I posted a message about this a while back in the Capture forum, but since then I have found out the cause, but I can't find the cure, so as it is now more due to encoding then capturing I have posted in this forum now.
So, to put this in detail, when I capture footage from specific HD channels from a UK satellite provider I find that although software plays back the original capture fine, it wont if I try to re-encode it, which I always need to do when archiving footage. I found out that this only happens when FFDShow is installed, even the latest version. If I uninstall it then it is fine (unless I re-encoded when it was installed). The odd thing is though even if I tell my encoding software not to use FFDShow, then it still happens. Also I have my decoder set to CoreAVC in DVBViewer, which is fine. Oddly though this only happens on newer VBR HD channels and not the CBR ones. Quality is fine without FFDShow installed, but some software like RipBot needs it and I want to use such software if at all possible.

Also, sorry to ask multiple questions via one thread, but while I am here I wonder if anyone can help with my other encoding problems......
When I capture HD footage from TV using DVBViewer I always find it hard to do what I want in easy steps. Lots of software gives me error messages, like too many streams, or it freezes, or the time line doesn't show up, or not enough data for buffers, or the frames are not the right type, etc etc. Any idea why I have so many errors on a recording that seems to have excellent signal and quality ? It plays back fine in WMP or PowerDVD. But encoding and stream software nearly always gives me some kind of error message or audio problem. I capture in standard HDTV h.264 TS streams. When I try and use TSCutter it gives me a frame error and then the audio ALWAYS gradually goes out of sync per cut. So I have to re-encode in MainConcept to AVC or HDTV, hoping this will sort out any errors, this then sometimes wont encode the audio, or crashes on a frame. Sometimes it will work though.
It is so frustrating, I just want a h.264 TS file that I can edit without errors and re-encode to a smaller file size. Why is this proving so difficult ? Any advice for stream fixers or ways I can improve what I am doing would be much appreciated.
