ATI AIW Radeon codecs

I admit, I am a newbie to this stuff, so sorry if this is an obvious question....

When using the TV-Recorder provided with the ATI multimedia player, how can i get the file sizes down? I have it set to use the DivX 4 codec, but 35 sec. of recording runs me around 10MB...what do i need to do to get true DivX compression?? Where i can fit a whole movie onto a 700MB CDR?:) thanx for the help!--andy

If you're trying to compress during capture, reducing the bitrate or quality setting will reduce the file size. However, you might not obtain good quality with real-time, lower-bitrate DivX compression unless you decrease the resolution. Additionally, you'll probably need to compress the audio, but it's better to do that after capture.

For the best quality, you should capture to an AVI with as little compression as possible (e.g. Huffyuv or MJPEG). Then you can filter the video and compress it to DivX with 2-pass encoding. This maximizes quality and minimizes file size, but it'll take more effort. See the guides at Doom9's page and at my site for further information.
