Hi guys.
My favorite codec for some time ago was RMVB because it encoded a 350MB XVID file with almost same video quality, and acceptable quality. Recently I downloaded a MP4 smallville episode which was just 73MB and I was just blown by its video quality. It was same, if not better than the RMVB, but audio quality was kinda low-but still very good for 73MB for a 42 minute video.

I have around 10GB of Xvid files I need to encode to Mp4 now, I checked the properties of the file and it showed the codec was H264. Then I tried to see the guides of MP4-AVC in doom9, but its all so confusing (whats the list of "codecs" of h264?) isn't H264 itself a codec?. I couldn't find any tool to find the detailed encoding settings of the H264 encoded file, but the video quality was really mind blowing.

I have MeGUI already, and I tried to encode files through it, but I can't find where to set the settings (bitrate etc etc). So if someone could please tell me the best way and settings to encode XVID files to H264 (or X264?) with best quality at around 80mb per 42 minute.

Thanks alot.

I've read and searched already. The relevant I found were too detailed for my problem. I don't think I need to learn AVIsynth script and stuff to encode a few files from XVID. So I thought someone would help me out in here. Just a rough settings and one or two software names would be enough for me to get my stuff done.

Hey bro you might as well learn avisynth because most of the tools here use it... If you don't have a good understanding of what is going on, you will never be able to get the quality you want from the files size you have mentioned...

Can't imagine a 73 MB file 45 min long with excellent quality... Something got cut...

I tried to encode abn XVID file with MeGui (with a downloaded profile), but it gave error. I'll try to experiment with it more anyways.

I guess I'll need to learn AviSynth eventually anyways, but I have to encode a few files till tomorrow, so I guess I'll use Easy Realproducer for now (though it lowers brightness/contrasts of encodes considerably).

Here's a screenshot of the MP4 video I was referring to:
http://asadahmad.com/images/tmp/mp4-cap.png
It is not the same as when the video is playing in full screen (VLC), because if you zoom in the cap, it will distort, but the video remains clear. If anyone can tell how to see the detailed codec options (bitrate, fps etc etc) of an mp4 file please?.

And I am still looking for some tips in this matter.

Thanks
