While looking around for something to decode some AC3 audio from a DVD source, I realized that BeSweet supported AC3 input. Using the latest beta, I decoded some audio only to notice some subtle but noticeable "sharpness" on some sounds, particularly on higher frequency sounds (I noticed it on speech by an actor with a higher freq. voice). Has anyone else come across this?
Just to verify that I wasn't nuts, I tried playing the original AC3 file via AC3Filter's Winamp plugin, and I could tell the difference between the two different decodes. I was able to decode it using valdec (AC3Filter's command line decoder), and there's a noticable difference between the two decodes.
Has anyone else noticed this? It seems like a bad idea to use BeSweet to decode AC3...unless there's some argument I'm missing--but it's a straitforward decode. No downmix, upmix, or sample rate change, and 16 bit wav should provide enough vertical resolution.
Thanks in advance,
