hi i have a creative zen vision w and an archos av500 mobile dvr.
i recently used transcode to rip a dvd to xvid and up-convert it to a resolution of 1920x1080. i transferred it to both players but when i tried to play them i get an error that the resolution is not supported or the image size is too big.
i looked online to find what the maximum resolution each would play but i only get information about how big the lcd screen is.
does anyone know ?
thanks,

To quote the Archos av500 manual:
Video playback MPEG-4 SP with B-Frames2 with stereo sound. Near DVD quality up to 720x480 @ 30 f/s (NTSC), 720x576 @ 25 f/s (PAL), AVI file format. WMV93 (including protected files) up to 352x288 @ 30 f/s, and 800 KBit/s.
So it appears your resolution is unsupported.

Just do it without the upconvert.

yes thx that makes sense but in an another unrelated thread i mentioned i am buying a new tv and it seems like an unnecessary waste of pixels.
before i wasnt using any resizing filter but i guess by default it turns mpeg-2 720p into xvid 480i/p.
amways, lately i've been using transcode option -B 12,10,8. does that make 96x80 or is my math wrong ?

Standard DVDs (NTSC) are 720x480 - This is referred to as either "480i" (Interlaced) or "480p" (Progressive)
"720p" = 1280x720

Looking at the Transcode commandline, I would use the -Z option instead of -B.

yeah i am probably confusing the wxh numbers.
-Z would be more straight-forward

@mousemurder:
Hi!
There are no Archos Portable Players who support hi resolution at the moment, and I don't think that the new 6 generation will do it either. All of them play up to dvd resolution.
Actually it doesn't make sense to support it if you want to see your hi def. movie in such a little display... but, good for a TV connection... :cool:
Greetings!
