What program do you use to determine divx quality???

Title says pretty much everything.

I remember some people saying that they had use program xxx to give a quality (0-100) of their divx movies. Looking at the download page didn't help me...maybe I missed something there. ;)

Which program was this and where can I download it?

Hi elgan123-
You don't need to download anything. Just open your .avi in Nandub, and then go File-File Information-DivX Quality, and wait a minute or so for the results.

i guess that'll teach me to be more patient. i've probably looked at that 'file information' page in nandub 500 times and i never waited long enough to see any of the keyframe info or quality. :rolleyes:

while we are on this topic though i have 2 more questions:

1. What 'divx quality (0-100)' do you people strive for for 1 CD or 2 CD?

2. Is there an information page somewhere that tells me exactly what nandub looks for when determining quality (0-100)?

Hi Again-

I know nothing about it, but have been able to infer some things (or maybe just made them up). The number presented is usually within a point or two of the 2nd Pass Compared To First Pass given in Percentages in GKnot after your first pass. So I would guess that it is figuring an average DRF, and then dividing it into DRF 2 (so if the DRFs averaged throughout the movie=3, then DivX Quality=66.667). If that's true, then what you're looking for is the same as what you're looking for in GKnot (65-75=Good Quality-higher, use higher resolution-lower, use lower resolution, or be prepared for some problem scenes maybe).

But that's just an educated (or maybe uneducated) guess, and I too would appreciate some clarification (confirmation would be nice, but even contradiction will do-in the interest in gaining knowledge).

yes, but percentage in gknot is not 100% the same. double quantizer does not always mean halve the filesize.

Mine came preinstalled when I was produced. Even got two of them. And my parents where nice enough to go for the extras package so i can even close them at will and look around with them.

Sorry, but no program can tell you about the REAL quality, only stuff that's really nothing but mubmo jumbo.

I only make DivX 3 movies, and it works fine for them. I don't know if it works on DivX 4 movies (I guess it won't). Are you making DivX 4 movies?

Cute, but very subjective. What looks good to one may not look good to another. This is, as far as I know, the only objective way to judge movie quality. Of course it's not perfect, but it's far from mubmo jumbo .

Knowing the average DRF is mumbo jumbo? I agree it's only a number...but it will give you some indication of how the rip will look won't it?

I checked a bunch of rips that I did recently and they range in quality from 85.5 (2 CD 'Alien' rip with AC3 sound that looks amazing) to 45.7 (1 CD 'Fists of Fury' from a REALLY noisy source that looks, well, noisy.)

It looks to me that anything with quality > 60 looks very good. Does anyone want to comment on this?

I checked and Nandub only gives a quality (0-100) for divx 3.11.
