Exactly what loss in quality is suffered when a 1080p blu-ray is ripped and re-encoded to a h264 or wmv at 9mbps? What i mean to say is how noticeable is it when watching on a large screen? The reason i ask is i store all my dvds on an external hdd and watch via xbmc and im considering getting a blu-ray and storing them the same way but playing via my 360.

Anyone any experience?

Very little quality loss, if you rip well. (proper usage of degraining in certain movies that really need it, etc.) If you are a novice, though, it can look quite bad.

I recommend the try'N'See() method. And if your results are not up to par, I recommend the doom9Search() method. If you can't find what you seek, try askForHelp(). ;)

It depends on the source. Some look identical, some have slight quality loss.
