You can use many many programs...
e.g. Nandub->File->File information...->Decompressor
(maybe that helps you)

yeah that would work if i use dix3 codec for divx3 movies and divx4 for divx4 movies,....
but i am using divx4 for divx3 and divx4 movie playback so that wont work because it will show curently installed code that is asigned for divx playback and that is divx4.12
is there any other way than this maybe some util or somoething similar
thanks

I suppose you can identify via the FOURCC codes..?

divx4=DIVX
divx3=DIV3
divx3=divx
is this corect(lower and upper case is important)
i used FourCC changer to extract the FOURCC information
thanks

Yep. Although in codec packs, the authors of them sometimes change the FOURCC code (e.g. the crappy AngelPotion pack).

if ur os is win xp just rightclick on your avi file and select "properties". a/v format informations are listed there ;).
dont know if this works in earlier win versions.

nope it's not correct.
FourCC = Codec
DIVX = DivX4.xx
DIV3 = DivX3.11 Low Motion
DIV4 = DivX3.11 Fast Motion
