Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a minor annoyance I'm having with a DVD project.

My source is a Digital Betacam tape which contains a telecine'd film on it. I'm happy with the DVD encode, however while playing it back on my own HDTV (a consumer model), I've noticed some slight coloured flashing in busier areas of the picture. They're not too annoying, but they're there.

I can't see these coloured flashes on my own PC normally, unless I mess around with the Saturation and Hue. The source tape does not exhibit this problem, as you can see from this short side-by-side comparison clip:

I've tried out CinemaCraft SP2 trial, as well as the Mainconcept encoder built in to Sony Vegas, and these both exhibit the same. Does anyone know how I could limit or eradicate this problem, or is it simply something we'll have to live with? Perhaps it won't show at all on a 100% calibrated display device?

HI!

1) The tape doesn't display the blocks

2) The blocks aren't visible when played on PC

3) Blocks are visible on HDTV

Solution - Adjust the HDTV...
