Error when attempting to decrypt - Waiting for drive to be ready

Hi guys,

I searched but couldn't find this; hope it isn't a dupe.

If set out to decrypt and make backups of a couple of new films like I am Legend or No Country for Old Men, the DVD drive can't ever seem to see the disc. This is with RipIt4me, or DVDDecrypter or DVDShrink. In fact, I can't even play these discs on the PC. And, yes, the DVD drive is working properly with other discs.

Any thoughts?

RipIt4Me processes the R1 versions of both of those titles with no difficulty. The "I am Legend" DVD has some autorun files on it so, hold down the Shift key while loading the DVD...

Ok, I've held the shift key down as I inserted the disc, with ripit4me already running, and no change. I had tried that (without the shift key part) prior to making this post. The busy light on the dvd drive goes on solid for a while and then starts flashing and the dialogue box of ripit4me where you select the drive and so forth puts up and flashes "waiting for drive to be ready" so it seems like the disk fools it somehow. :confused:

Therefore, if your DVDs are R1, I'd suggest that either the discs are physically daamged or soiled, or your player/burner is failing.

Clean the DVDs, coldboot your system and try again...

Yes, I saw what you posted before and appreciated knowing that someone was having no trouble. These are region 1 and appear to be clean as a whistle, and I did do a cold boot, all to no avail. Maybe my drive is going away. Dunno. The fact that nobody else is having this problem would point at something on my end, certainly.

1) If available to you, try loading these two DVDs on another system

2) See if you now have problems loading older commercial DVDs, that previously were recognized by your present system

3) Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner/player. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10US

Just did "I Am Legend" last night with RI4M with no problems, but as always I do just the main movie, but should make no difference.

I was able to extract the VOBs and make a backup of "I am Legend " just fine. Had RipIt4Me open and the shift key held down when inserting the disk. Extracted it in file mode and got the whole disk. Its strange though. The 3rd .VOB file is only 292KB.

Just a thank you to everyone who offered advice, and a follow-up. My drive was indeed going south, and shortly after I enquired here it ceased to recognize ANY DVD put into it. So, I swapped it out for a new one I had sitting on a shelf and all is good again!
