It would help if you give some more information:
* What build of Avidemux you used?
* What was your input? (Container, A/V Format, Resolution, FPS, ...)
* What encoder and what settings were used? Which output container?
* Any filters in use? If so, which filters?
* Does it happen with all sources or only one specific?
BTW: The logfile was moved to a new location in recent builds.

With "What build of Avidemux you used?", I meant which revision number ;)
If you are not using r3908 (latest build), get it here and try again:
http://www.razorbyte.com.au/avidemux/
Also make sure it's not your machine that is unstable!
Test your system with Prim95's "Torture Test" and with "Memtest86+".

Access to the file seems to be forbidden.
Works fine here
But I think Gruntster has some kind of "referrer check" on his site, so big software sites don't steel his traffic.
Try downloading directly in your web-browser (no "download managers" and no "referrer blocker")
You might want to try my mirror:

Disabling the "referrer blocking" in the firewall helped ....

Obviously a crash in x264, not in Avidemux core application:
It crashed on function "x264_me_search_ref" within the "libx264.dll" library.
There were some compilation problems on x264 lately :(
Maybe you replace libx264.dll with the one from here and try again:

Obviously it crashes in libx264. There were some problems with x264 and stack alignment, indeed.
But I believe Guntster has fixed those problems with a patch. At least everything is working fine here now.
Please delete your Avidemux folder and do a clean re-install with latest revision:
http://www.razorbyte.com.au/avidemux/#avidemux2.4
Latest revision is r4182 (30 Jun 2008)
A build of Avidemux r4182 with x264 r891 including Psy RDO v0.22 can be found here:

1. The log you posted doesn't contain any crash info, so the "EXCEPTION" you quoted before cannot be from that log
2. Recent builds of Avidemux will create the log file at: C:\Documents and Settings\John Doe\Application Data\avidemux\admlog.txt

If it actually crashed in an MMX function, it can't possibly be an alignment issue. I'm not sure how accurate that address is, since its +0x54081, which sounds like a very long way away from the actual SAD function its claiming it crashed in.

Maybe related to the problem fixed in x264 r900 recently ???

So wish I was on your wave lengths in thinking :D but any solution ? coz I really like avidemux.

I cannot reproduce that crash. Maybe because on my system x264 will use the SSE version of that function instead of MMX?
Also I wonder whether this bug is specific to the DLL? Does it happen with the CLI encoder as well? If so, it's not an Avidemux problem...
BTW: What was the last Avidemux build working for you, if any?

I cannot reproduce that crash. Maybe because on my system x264 will use the SSE version of that function instead of MMX?Pass --asm MMX2 to the encoder, then you'll use the MMX version.

Seems to work here with latest x264.exe that comes with MeGUI:

Avidemux v2.4.1 (r3791)
Is the last one but it had http://razorbyte.com.au/dev_dump/libx264_r797_MSVC90.zip installed with it from the very 1st post about avidemux crashing for me.
Thanks.

Sorry for kinda double post. Ive not tried this as the source is a dvd folder. If you could give me a test mkv to try I will gladly does this. I have Megui installed as I use the bitrate calc in there.

The x264 CLI encoder requires Avisynth input. So if your input is a "dvd folder", simply use DGIndex to index the VOB files and use MPEG2Source() to load the resulting .d2v file...
