Macro blocks in some scenes

My friend recently did a 2-CD-Rip with DivX3. Quality is great besides those stupid macro blocks in some scences.
What can I do to get rid?

Sit more than 1.5m away from your monitor then you won't notice it. There is no way of getting rid of them, without further comprimising quality. If your friend can re-do the rip than with a slightly higher bitrate it would be ok.

You could also take Sasami2k and play with the filters... Maybe it will improve something for you...

Are you talking about little macroblocks, like on solid color walls, or gross codec errors that look really fucked up.

FOr the latter problem (gross codec errors), encode with anti-shit on. For Macroblocking on walls, use filtering, which smooths out the areas and allows the codec to compress them without blocking (usually, not always. And sometimes you have to punch the smoother up to the point of ridiculousness, which renders the movie unwatchable. But most of the time, it really helps).

I tried SeSami2k with a little improvement. But it's the gross codec errors that are getting onmy nerve. So if I understand you right,Lotionboy, I just have to reencode the movie in Nandub with Antishit on. Do you have any settings for me concerning AntiShit, min quality, Motion modulation?

I think the most used setting for Antishite is something like
16db, 0db, Motion 50%

This seems to give good results. Mind you, I rarely use Antishite.

I use 16db, 1db, Motion 00 which gets rid of gross codec errors without messing with the filesize to any real degree. And it kills freezeframes too, which is always nice. I always encode with anti-shit on. The difference between full and fast on my machine is usually 10 minutes (1h10 compared to 1h20), and since I use filters on almost all of my rips, I'm using full anyway. The nice thing about the setting above is that it almost never reencodes a frame unless there is shit, so there is no quality checking, which slows things down, and is unnecessary if you set Nandub up right. Sorry if that rambled a little.
