Basically, starting with an HDV camcorder (like this one (http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-HV20-Camcorder-Review.htm)), I want to:
- transfer the HDV material to the computer, ideally splitting the capture files at each scene change automatically
- convert the HDV files (MPEG2, MP2) to something compatible with BD-9 (AVC, Dolby Digital)
- author a very simple BD structure: no menus, just one title, each scene becomes a chapter in the title

Can someone outline the steps of the process described above, in terms of what software can be used?
What software can do the HDV capture?
What software can be used to edit the HDV files after capture?
What software is recommended to convert to AVC?
What software is recommended for authoring?

I've a vague idea how to do these steps on Linux, except the last step (authoring). I have no idea how to do anything on Windows, and that's why I'm asking.
So I would appreciate suggestions that apply either to Linux or to Windows.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and how to burn the Blu-Ray structure to a DVD-9? Can a regular DVD writing software be used for that?

You can use HDVSplit for transferring you video to computer:

I use Nero Vision 4 (part of Nero 7) or Nero Vision 5 (part of Nero 8) to transcode my HDV 1080i50 captures from a Sony HDR-HC7E HDV camcorder to the AVCHD format.

Nero Vision can transcode HDV to AVCHD and create an authored AVCHD file structure on a Hard Disk Drive, Storage Card or burn it directly on an DVD-R(W) or DVD+R(W) in the AVCHD DVD format using UDF 2.50.

The problem with the AVCHD format is that it only plays well on my PS3 (even @ 50Hz!) from AVCHD DVD or even directly from a Storage Card or External Hard Disk Drive. On the PC it's a mess. I tried FFDShow/MP11, Nero Showtime 4, PowerDVD 7 but smooth playback remains a problem. Very strange, because my original HDV 1080i50 files do play perfect on my PC???

So, I am still looking for an alternative but couldn't find anything that can match Nero's solution. I also tried to convert my HDV captures to the WMV9 Advanced Profile (WVC1) format but the output files do not play smooth enough, especially during panning shots.

Transcoding with x264 using RipBot264 or Xvid4PSP wasn't successfull either :(

If somebody could find a solution for high quality transcoding of HDV to H264/AVC or WMV/WVC1 for smooth playback on the PC I would be very happy.
