Has New Line dropped XProtect?

I just purchased the latest New Line release, the R1 version of "Love in the Time of Cholera" and, lo and behold, no multiple like-numbered .VOBs, and no fake .IFOs and .BUPs!

Perhaps they've just taken a break, while developing yet another strategy or perhaps, they've acknowledged that creating DVDs that don't play on some players is not "good business"...

I don't believe they have. It went awhile where it seemed every single release had X-Protect on it. Martian Child, released on February 12, 2008, was the first New Line release since Blade - House of Chthon that I have seen that didn't have the protection on it. Since then every newer release that I've seen has X-Protect on it again.

When they didn't put the protection on Martian Child I almost wondered if they did it so that there would be no problems with more upset customers being that Martian Child was a much more mainstream release than many other New Line releases.

So now we have two releases w/o it. Interesting. Only time will tell.

Likewise, it appears that SONY didn't bother adding "ARccOS" to the R1 versions of "Revolver" or "Conspiracy"...

It please me to be able to occasionally use ONLY good ol' DVD Decrypter to make backup copies of my DVDs ;>}

I haven't seen Revolver but Conspiracy was a joke. A single layer release. I'm only aware of it being direct to video. Why waste any effort on the protection. Honestly, I rarely see much protection at all on single layer releases from studios. Right now I'm sure Sony is a bit more focused on BD and Conspiracy wasn't worth their time.

As a further note it appears that The Sickhouse which was released by New Line Home Video on March 18th, 2008 contains X-Protect. Apparently it shows up as around 18.2 GB in size.
