Staxrip & Frame Repeats?

So far I have encoded 9 movies with Staxrip and its great. Easier to use then MeGUI (i still never figured out that program) and the video looks better then what i was doing with xvid. However now im up to the movie Die Hard (the first movie, but recently re-released in the black box to go with the 4th movie) and i get a error about duplicate frames.

Is there a guide somewhere that shows how to rip and convert this to x264 or something im supposed to do to fix it?

The strange thing is that the video appears to be 99% film on dgindex. Here is the relivent part of the log. If i try 'ignore pulldown' i get a 2x speed 45minute video.

I also have a 'fix' file which reads that i had a 'field order transition' which im not sure what that is.

Get the latest release candidate of DGIndex. There was a problem in this area that was resolved. You'll have to talk to staxrip people to find out how to update staxrip to use the newer version of DGIndex.

Right, well, its staxrip saying the error. DGIndex, the new version, did automatically fix the file but staxrip is the one causing the problems. Maybe staxrip needs to be updated to handle this kind of material. I was hoping the author of staxrip was frequenting this board and would catch it. :)

StaxRip just displays the DGDecode error. Did you try the latest DGIndex RC, did it work better? Did you install DGDecode RC properly (in plugin dir)?

Yes, I tried to use the new version of DGIndex and it still gave the error about needing to do Fix D2v and then asked me if i wanted it to do it and so i said yes. Im going to try and put the program into

C:\Users\mavrick\AppData\Roaming\StaxRip\Applications\DGIndex

Since thats where it stores it and see what happens and let everyone know.

If it remains a problem, then post a link to a piece of your VOB that can be used to duplicate the issue.

You can put DGIndex wherever you want as long as you tell StaxRip it's location using the 'External Applications' dialog. Did you copy DGDecode to the plugin dir? I don't know if DGIndex by any means can carry out this task for you like StaxRip does and how strong it protects you from not doing so and accidently using a incompatible old version causing issues not being able to self diagnose.

I think there might be some sort of copy protection going on with the film that im not aware of. Maybe the 'field order transition' is messing it up. If you run dgindex on a single 'chapter' file (I cut it by chapters to try and figure out where the transition is) it never gives a error.

If it remains a problem, then post a link to a piece of your VOB that can be used to duplicate the issue.

Ok ok messing around some more with the files i noticed that the 'field order transition' was at the very end of the film. Since processing the chapters individually caused no such errors to happen i decided to clip off the last few seconds where it shows the 'this movie was rated R'. Now assuming the field order transition was the problem im reindexing the movie to see if maybe it was that. If so then ill know what to do in the future.

Eureka, that last little 10mb chapter on the end which contained the 'rating' warning was the problem. It had duplicate frames for a few seconds and was messing up DGIndex by making it think the entire movie was that way. In the future, if anyone else has this problem, just crop out the warning at the end and everything will be fine.

Thanks for the help, if it wasnt for you guys i would have never been able to copy the movie.

BTW, I own all the movies i copy so im not being a pirate, i just dont want to lug around 500 DVD's with me.

If the latest DGDecode RC still returns a error then you really have to upload the thing using rapdshare so neuron2 can fix it. Few seconds to upload might be enough using a cutter, I'm sure neuron2 can recommend you one.

DGMPGDec 1.5.0 RC3 cannot generate this error, so worldgate must be invoking a wrong version of DGDecode.dll.

The problem wasnt with DGDecode, at least not fully. The material was encoded properly, its just the studio tacked on a film rating at the end of the movie which was just 1 image repeated for 10 seconds. Once i trimmed out that part the problem went away.

I've seens this comming, StaxRip verifies such things so I'll update StaxRip to use the latest RC.

something is broke, the RC just starts but don't open or process anything, any idea? Which version do you recommend for GUIs atm?

That's weird. Try deleting your INI file and letting RC3 make a new one. Make sure the playback speed is not set to single step.

What do you mean by "it don't open anything"? If you have a file that it will not open, please post a chunk of it so I can duplicate your issue.

I've not had any other complaints about RC3.
