This is probably very easy for experienced users.
I want to use VirtualDub to reduce a 360 mb XviD 1.1.0 file to about 285 MB XviD or DivX to fit on a CD but minimizing quality loss. The settings I have tried have either not shrunk the file or are extremely poor in quality.

The picture is 512x384 pixel, 29.97 fps
Gspot says the audio is
0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3,
48000Hz 161 kb/s tot , Joint Stereo LAME3.97b

Can some one help with the proper settings? I have version 1.5.10.

Hi!

1) If you used VirtualDub to create your initial .AVI, you should know how to adjust the settings.

2) If you used a different program to create your initial .AVI, I'd suggest you use it again to attain the desired results.

In either case, I'd strongly suggest that you use your original source material (presumably a DVD) to create the desired file...

Unfortunately I did not create the avi file, so I do not know what settings were used nor the source material.
