Hi
Can someone help me choose a suitable profile for encoding my DVD collection to MKV using AutoMKV. I'm shooting for filesizes of 3gb to 4gb depending on the length of the movie. I understand I should be able to get pretty good quality with that.
Do people generally use the HQ profiles or the CQ ones?
Thanks!

2 pass balanced is usually enough, expecially when final size is so huge
i can suggest to not apply resize (set to NONE), or only AutoCrop

Thanks!
Why not apply resize? Is it unnecessary for DVD conversions?

I suspect buzzqw has suggested not to resize as you likely wouldn't need to reduce the resolution to maintain video quality when using a 3-4 GB file size. If you did select Automatic width it'd probably suggest the original (720) or a higher wider so the resize testing would just be wasted time during the process. Might be different if you have a very noisy source, but in that case you'd likely be applying filters anyway to reduce that.
One point, if you're dealing with an anamorphic/widescreen source and selecting Original as the width you must select Anamorphic Encoding on the Advanced Settings tab so that your output maintains the correct aspect ratio.
