freeware Mpeg2 cutter with audio timeline?

I've been using video redo to cut my mpeg2 caps and i love how it's working out.

however, i hear very good things about cuttermaran and mpeg2schnitt.

as far as i can tell neither of those two has an audio timeline like video redo.

does anyone know if an mpeg2 cutter exists that displays the audio timeline so i can get very precise cuts like i do with video redo?
(reason i ask for foss or freeware is becuse 99% of the software on my system aside from xp itself is foss or freeware)

I use Cuttermaran quite a bit, it cuts the audio precisely as far as I can tell. It's nice because it lets you cut right down to the B-frame level. It doesn't display a Wave timeline of the audio though, if thats what you mean.

the reason is a bit complicated as to why i need more precise than a simple black frame in my caps.

way back when i started capping with a bt8 card, i would cap to
mjpeg. i started noticing that even though i was cutting at a black frame to cut the commercials, when i would watch the video there would a noticable POP at the beginning or end of my encode.

i used audgraph in avs to see that even though i was cutting at a black frame some audio from the comm was still there.

now that i capture to mpeg2 with a pvr-150 card, i need a better way of cutting so as to avoid the popping sounds. video redo does this perfect but of course, not freeware/foss :(.

I don't think you understand me correctly. In Mpeg2 video there are I-frames, "I" meaning "Intra", P-frames, meaning "Predictive", and B-frames, meaning "Bidirectional". So cutting down to the B-frame level with Mpeg2 is about as precise as you can get.

i was just stating why i needed the audio timeline visible to cut. video redo shows that the audio in my caps isn't completely silent till about 3-10 black frames into a comm break.

Not sure what you mean. With mpeg2schnitt audio loads with video and is cut "in sync". You can adjust audio lag before curring, too. Functionally almost the same as VideoReDo.

oh yeah i agree.

cutteraman and mpeg2schnitt cut perfectly with no sync issues that i've noticed; but here's a pic of what i mean....

if you notice, frames 1,2, and 3 are black frames (commercial transitions) with silent audio (green lines).

if i cut there, then the resulting cut will be perfect when it starts.

if i start the cut at frames 4, or 5, then when i play the result i will hear a loud POP sound.

i had this problem a LONG time ago when i first started capping and took the advice of someone and used audgraph for avs.

however now that i cap in mpeg2 using avs and audgraph in vdub is EXTREMELY slow for me when i seek through the frames.
videoredo is fast and shows the audio timeline so i can get my cut in the black frame with no audio leaking in.

mpeg2schnitt and cutteraman are just as good; except no audio timeline so it's almost impossible for me to get a no POP clean cut.

i'll keep searching :) and maybe i'll find a way workaround or shell out the scratch (hate to do it) for videoredo since i love foss so much.
