Slysoft finally breaks BD+

It does indeed!

I'm now able to play Fantastic Four 2's 00001.m2ts file directly with Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic (with PowerDVD Ultra providing video decoding, WinDVD BD providing audio decoding, and Haali Media Splitter, well, working as a splitter). It plays perfectly, except that when I switch between audio tracks there is some slowdown and some visual artifacts appear. Not sure if they can be attributed to AnyDVD being not fast enough to descramble the stream 'on the fly' at such 'extreme' conditions, or to something else.

It just came to my mind that by doing binary comparisons between just decrypted .m2ts file, and one which is both decrypted and has BD+ removed, it might be possible to figure out the scrambling (and thus, descrambling) algorithm for this particular movie. (Similar to how I found the algorithm to remove Blu-ray region code by comparing MovieObject.bdmv files). So, if I was in your place, and if this scenario is indeed possible, I would remove an option to enable/disable BD+ removal from AnyDVD interface (make it always enabled) and would also change your web service so it does not send keys for BD+ titles to whose using older versions of AnyDVD. Just a friendly advice ;)

10 years my ... Muhahaha. Finally no more stopping AnyDVD HD and reducing the resolution to 1920x1080 (why oh why did Dell leave out HDCP over dual link DVI in the 3008 when it was in the 3007?) when watching Fox titles.
The BDA should consider giving SlySoft a generous donation for making the clearly less consumer friendly format a heck of a lot more user friendly - first AACS, then the region codes and now BD+.

I'm well aware, that it is possible to compare streams and record the differences.
It is impossible to determine an algorithm that was used to scramble the data because that simply doesn't exist.

It would require pretty large files to pass on the differences.

That may be an option for non-windows users or for people who are really, really sitting on their wallets :)

In other words: the only ones who would benefit from this procedure, wouldn't buy such a product anyway - so then it's ok with me...

Well, there must be some algorithm. How does that BD+ script work then when it descrambles the data? It might be very sophisticated so it's not possible to figure it out by looking at the two files though.

By the way, can you please tell whether AnyDVD simply runs the BD+ script present on disc 'on the fly' when it removes BD+ encryption (the similar way players do) or you "disembowel" that script in your lab, find what I call the "algorithm" and then create your own descrambling code (possibly different for each title).

This software is worth every penny (and more).

I even had a disc on my hard drive that was BD+ protected. So, just for the heck of it, I used ImgBurn to write it to an ISO, mounted it with Daemon Tools, and reripped. Like magic, it even caught the BD+ and corrected it on the second time through.

The m2ts file was stripped of the 4 byte header before being run through mpeg2repair in logging mode.

If you want drives, there's a LiteOn reader (BD, DVD, CD) that you can find for $110, if you need a BD reader and DVD writer, or a BD burner, I'd look at the LG product line - I have both the reader and the burner myself, they rate quite good, have excellent specs and as a bonus they can handle HD DVD (so you could get a title from the firesale, then put it on a BD later on following the instructions you find in the authoring forum).

I agree with Doom9. The LG drives are superb. I have the GGC read only combo drive (well, it burns DVDs) and has never let me down. It's an excellent drive. I've heard really good things about the GGW drive, as well. I'd like to get one when I build my next HTPC.

I'm just really pleased with the folks over at AnyDVD. They definitely made my day. Perfect timing too. In the last two weeks I bought a BluRay standalone for my TV and a BluRay reader/writer for my computer.

That's good to hear. I've always loved and highly recommended DVD RB as it's an INCREDIBLE piece of software. Imaging you working on something for BD brings a big smile to my face. I do, however, realize the very big challenges there. 3 codecs instead of 1, and that's just on video. Audio is another whole nightmare. So yea, I realize this won't be "it's coming next week" type of thing. But it's good to know you've thought about it. I look forward to the day when we have some user friendly tools for dealing with these structures....things like removing trailers and other nonsense while retaining menus would be awesome. I'm not so much caring about compression at this point as I am just having a user friendly way to remove stuff I don't want. I hope that makes sense.

I think Slysoft made everyone's day with this release. It's SO fast and easy. It's deceptive because it's so transparent. There was an ENORMOUS amount of work that went into making that. They really are magicians over there. :)

WOW! I was an HD DVD support mainly because there was not this added "protection" and I was very sad when HD DVD died. But hearing this news has certainly made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I may consider finally purchasing a bluray drive now knowing that i can make backups of movies that I legally purchased.

Exactly! See Sony, by allowing people to make backup copies you actually widen your consumer base, and increase your sales. Well we've enabled it anyway now, so it doesn't matter now.
