View Full Version : Is it possible to get odd framerates Blu-Ray compliant?

I have a few videos that have odd framerates such as 23.990 as well as of course a bunch that are 29.97 fps. I can convert them all to 23.976 however I have run into different sets of problems.

In regards to 29.97 fps videos, the video plays smoothly although slower and the audio is way out of sync. Is there a way to take a 29.97 fps video and make it 23.976 audio and video while retaining the speed, or can I just leave it at 29.97 and still use it fine in Scenarist HDMV? (I haven't played with any files other than 23.976 in HDMV yet.) Also, the next big question is, can you have 2 videos at different framerates like that used simultaneously or within the same playlist? (I am looking at putting a video as a Secondary PIP stream.)

In regards to the other 'odd' framerates, I tried converting a 23.990 file to 23.976 and the outcome was choppy, although instead of normal choppy it had white flashes throughout it. I know 23.990 isn't a supported framerate in HDMV therefore it must be converted in order to pass MUI Generator. Is there a way to convert it to 23.976 without screwing up the video and audio?

i would leave 29.97 stuff at 29.97 and no you cant mix and match frame rates. you can do pulldown on 23.976 to make it appear to be 29.97 and then they can be together

for odd frame rates.. you can technically set the frame rate to 23.976 with a calculator figure out how often you have to add in a fake field (using tricks used by pulldown) to compensate for the frames running fast. But there isnt anything that will let you do that and it probably cant be hex edited... the easier thing would be to set the video frame rate to 23.976 and then just use an audio tool to change audio duration (the small change shouldnt have noticible impact on pitch)

the odd framerate stuff.. you
