I've been trying to convert a lot of different media to Blu-Ray compliant AVC but I've run into a lot of problems regarding skipping playback. MainConcept Reference and Sonic CineVision give video that constantly skips even when going from an HD AVC source to begin with. (23.976 frames per second, AVC in an mp4 or mkv container.) The best results I've had are from x264 command-line (as MeGUI won't work on my Vista) but even that I've finally hit a stumbling block with in regards to an encode. It seems to be adding 'white flashes' in an encode.
Any ideas about why these encoders may be giving me skipping/etc? The outcome has to be a Blu-Ray complaint file (720p will do.) I did try using a different framerate at one point (29.97) but that made things even worse since it is all 23.976 original.
