Noone has done any tests to see if there is any difference in speed and or quality bw the codecs out there

eg. mainconcept, core, lead etc.

is h264/AVC being taken up by the content providers very much?? whats the market penetration?

... Yes they have ...

MSU has done a number of them, though I'm not exactly a fan of their methodology.

i just read that, mainconcept beats x264 in "some" departments, i wanted to ask if this is because mainconcept has a feature not yet implemented in x264?

i just read that, mainconcept beats x264 in "some" departments, i wanted to ask if this is because mainconcept has a feature not yet implemented in x264?The primary reason is probably due to better B-frame decision. Mainconcept has weighted P-frame prediction but its likely not very useful.
