easy to use ipod touch transcoding tools

Hi all,

I'm looking for a quick'n'dirty ipod touch transcoding tool. I know several are available, but my requirements are:

easy to use; it's just for transcoding to the ipod and not for creating archive copies
quality-based mode is preferred
I would like it to be fast


I find MeGUI to be too much of a hassle, handbrake does not work on many files, ripbot264 produces results which don't always correctly play (and it lacks some options I would like such as automatic interlacing detection), recode does not have a quality-based mode.

I heard a lot about the programs videora and iphone video converter but am not really familiar with them...Does anybody have any experience with them?

I'm actually pretty happy with Recode 3, the video files play back ok every single time and it's reasonably fast but there's no quality-based mode...

I use staxrip. To make it easy you will need to start with Baseline profile and make your own template that has LC audio, quantizer set to what you want and add "-level 3.0" to the cli (command line) codec profile. But once that is done you can load the template, enter the filename, set width and then encode.

It is quality based, will do interlace & IVTC automatically, as fast as x264 will allow.

Let me know if you need any help setting it up.

MeGui is also OK once you set up the One-Click profile, but that can really be a chore.

If you don't mind spending money a lot of people like CuCuSoft's tools, but it does not support quality encoding.

I use Staxrip as well. It does have a specific profile for iPod video under the x264 menu, then you don't need to mess with the commandline.

If you want relatively easy + one click and so on, try videora. I have used it a couple of times with my friend's ipod and it worked very well. It supports batch processing, and a number of different profiles, plus you can make your own.

Give it a try. It should be pretty self explanatory.

Nanorip (http://nanorip.googlepages.com/) is as simple as they get. I wrote it for my nano (3rd generation). There are crf modes in the custom profiles that work on my ipod. The next rev will use crf by default.

I still use MeGui for high quality stuff and really like the one-click-encoding too, but it takes some time to set up, as Weaver mentioned.
