Core 2 quad core, fastest you can find.

As dark said, Core 2 Quad is the best you can get. You'll have to forgive me as I haven't shopped for PC parts in the uk. Assuming they are a 1-1 ratio and that the pound is still about 2-1, then you have about $240 us dollars on your hand. At that price, the Q6600 should be available to you.
You should note, however, that fairly soon here (like, 5 days) the Q9XXX series should be released, it would be wise to spend your money on one of those instead of the Q6600.
the Q9XXX series is about 5% faster at the same clock speed and significantly cooler running then the Q6600. And, if you are into it, they overclock like mad.

Fix your title fast, cheshire2k, and remove the request for "best", or you'll get a strike.

So you moved the request for best from the body to the title! You had your chance, struck for rule 12.

"9) Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.
12) ... Do not ask "what's best" because this question cannot be answered objectively. Each and everyone has their own view about what's best in a certain area. The best is what works best for you!"
Sorry, he doesn't have anything against you, he is just making sure you abide by the rules. (I wish more moderators would do that)
