The MonoDevelop team is proud to announce the release of MonoDevelop 1.0.

MonoDevelop is a GNOME IDE primarily designed for C# and other .NET languages. MonoDevelop enables developers to quickly write desktop and ASP.NET Web applications on Linux and Mac OS X. MonoDevelop makes it easy for developers to port .NET applications created with Visual Studio to Linux and Mac OS X and to maintain a single code base for all three platforms.

Actually MonoDevelop is only a developing IDE. There is already a good Open Source one for Windows (SharpDevelop) from which MonoDevelop has been developped. We use it to develop SubtitleCreator for example.

What's needed to run a .NET software under Mac is a port of the .NET FrameWork for Mac.

Otherwise, there is no need to recompile the executable for Mac or Linux, just install Mono and it should work (see http://www.mono-project.com/Mono:OSX and http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html for downloading mono). The last version of Mono should allow you to run any software compiled for .NET 2.0 on Linux or Mac OS X. See the mono site for more details.

Cheers

I agree, it works ok for most things in my experience.

People should, however, always use the latest mono release.
