iMovie recording problem

Hello -

I recently recorded a theater performance, and the video does not work when I try and play it. I am hoping some genius can help me out. Here's the situation:

The show was recorded from a very nice HD Camera and was connected directly to a MacBook Pro. The MacBook was running iMovie and was directly recording the show to the macbook. After recording was complete, the theater had to get cleared, so the macbook was shut off before processing all of the file (presumably). In the end, I have a 16GB .MOV file that is unplayable.

The good news - Before attempting to record the live show, the cameraman did a couple test recordings with the setup that were successful. I therefore have a test.MOV file that was fully processed and is working properly.

My Hope - I am guessing that something is wrong with the headers on the 16GB file that I need. Is there a way I could join the correct headers onto the file that isn't working (from the working test file since it was recorded with the exact same setup)? Or Hex Edit the file to put proper headers, or whatever else any of you can think of? Please let me know.

If there is anymore information that anybody might need to help me along, just let me know.

Let me clarify for setarip_old, or anybody else that is wondering. I hired a camera man to film the live theater performance. I was not the person operating the camera. I was, however, the owner of the laptop that the camera man was recording to... therefore I did not receive the files other than directly from the camera.

so to answer, "did you obtain a recording of a live performance that was recorded by someone else?" The answer is someone else was recording, but the data files I have are the original recordings. They were not transferred from anywhere other than the direct firewire cable connected to the actual camera that did the recording.

Hopefully this helps clarify and someone can lend me some good advise on getting this all fixed up.
