Hi
First of all, english is not my native tongue, so excuse if I make a gramatical error.
Well, beside I have read several treads about my topic and tried a lot of filters that Gordian knot offer me, nothing improve the quality of my picture when I tried to make it to convert to avi codec xvid, maybe is my xvid configuration or the lacking of good filters, so, my main goal is to make the file in the range of 270 -300 kbps and look decent or good(viewable,enjoyable) to the eye. (make the file be 23.976)
Like you would see in my package that I sent to you the real recorded material is far to be perfect contains a lot of macrobloking and have effects to obscure the image, so when is compressed looks like I enhanced the noise to much, so i need to denoise, so i use the denoisers of GK, but no with good results, another problem is credits (Letters) have like and halo sorrounded them.
I want to make the resolution be 640,480 or another you suggest to me, yes, look like I asking a lot, but believe that i tried all this weekend without sucsees, so what are your recomendations, upgrade to another program, download new filters. help please, thanks. :helpful:

Maybe i dont myself clear. A picture can help. this is the image I capture with my dvbs card, if you see the picture there are some details expained.

Hi Eugenio. I don't think I understood everything that you're saying, but I got the gist of it.
1.) 270-300kbps is very small, especially for xvid. There's going to be considerable artifacting. 700-1000kbps would be more reasonable imo. h.264 is a better algorithm if you need really small streams --- xvid doesn't compress as well.
2.) To get rid of some of those halos, try using FFT3DFilter before doing other operations. It's great at removing noise.

270-300kbps implies you want a 45 minute archive to be about 100Mb. Is this so?
Aiming for 640x480 is very very hopefull and very unlikely to yield the result you may wish for. A more realistic frame size for this bitrate would be 384x288. Perhaps upto 464x352 if the source is extremely very "clean".
Looking "good" usually means maintaining texture and keeping the edges sharp, both these require a higher bitrate. To compensate you must make the image smaller. Remember a VHS video tape has arguable only about 250 horizontal lines of resolution.
To make the compression more effective you will have to throw away some image detail with filters like FFT3DFilter.
All mpeg4 based codecs discard detail that (hopefully) the eye cannot easily see. H.264 uses a more advanced model than XviD so can compress better.

My source 540x480, so im upscaling. so you advice me downside my resolution

Yes a wish preserve details, not noise, Im asking this because I see files that size that looks so good to my eye,
audio doesnt matter to me, maybe my source isnt the best, but is what I have to my hand, right now im reading various topics that i hope will help me alot, like restore youtube videos, my videos arent that bad, so there is hope that can i make a good trial and error.

Okay as you are talking about a 544x480 image and you say dvbs capture card, I assume this was a 16:9 transmission of a 4:3 pillar boxed image and you have cropped the black side away.
If this is so there will be no traditional analogue noise to remove. Any noise will be on the original source material before transmission and from compression artifacts in the broadcast stream.
For the broadcast compression artifacts use DGDecode/Mpeg2Source to read your DVB capture. Enable the internal Deblocking and Deringing filters. Set the strength to make a just noticable subtle difference.
For a computer there is no real difference between noise and
image texture they are both just bumps in a signal. So you are probably on a hideing to nothing with filtering the original noise. But try various filter like FFT3DFilter, MVDegrain or a smoother, you may find one that pleases your eye.
Your main weapon will be final image frame size. A smaller frame needs less bits to encode, so the encoder can use more bits for image detail, but a smaller image has less detail. So it is a compromise.
Use a neutral resizer like Spline16.
P.S. You might do well to survey the HDTV / DVB / TiVo (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=64) forum. They specialise in do this.

I like the results alot with the bitrate of 290,
so i just now need to cut the sides black edges and top noise
and of course deinterlace.

When encoding to XviD or h.264 try to select widths and heights that are divisible by 16 if possible. i.e. 528x384 or 512x384 would have been maginally better choices.
The encoder will internally round up to the next multiple of 16 and the decoder will crop back to the correct size, so you won't see it, but the encoding is still carrying the extra hidden data and wasting bits. Those bits are better used by you even with a few percent aspect error.
Also you mention 23.976 in your first post. This implies you think the original was film so you probably are looking for Inverse Telecine rather than bash Deinterlacing.
What % Film did DGIndex quote at the end of your .D2V file. You may be able to use Force Film mode and avoid the problem.

Ok, so my resolution was wrong, this is 4/3 right, if i choose to be 16/9, need to be also by divisible by 16 i get it.
