mkv to dvd9 to play on hd dvd player

I am trying to backup my hd dvd's and I need some help.

Can someone please tell me all the software I need to accomplish this? How do I burn m;y mkv file to dvd9 w/o losing the resolution and 5.1 surround sound?

You said you want to back up your DVDs, so why are you asking about converting MKV files?

I already converted my HD DVD's to MKV files.Why not convert directly from the HD DVDs? Converting from a lossy format to another lossy format to another lossy format is generally a bad idea.
