wmp 11 won't open flv files

i have flv files that are from youtube. when i try to open the flv with windows media player 11, i just get an error message.

the video plays fine in mpc-hc. i've installed ffdshow and Gabest Flash Video Splitter, which i checked are working properly by disabling mpc-hc internal filters and seeing which filters get used by mpc-hc.

any ideas on what's wrong?

Remember, you have to register the file by yourself.
At command prompt:regsvr32 .........
