Blu-ray Region Code Remover 2.5 - 22-Nov-2008

- Fixed an error ("Extra data contains Zip64 information but version 2.0 is not high enough") which was happening
when the program tried to process .jar files with Zip64 extentions. The error was caused by SharpZipLib.dll.
Had to modify SharpZipLib's code and compile a custom .dll in order to fix this problem.

- Started using the same key and certificate for signing .jar files (previously the key was generated anew every time).
This is also the same key and certificate used by AnyDVD HD for the purpose of .jar file signing (Thanks, Peer!).

- Added an option to fix downloaded BD-Live content in BD-Live cache folders. As the program uses the same key as AnyDVD HD
for signing .jar files, you can use this feature for BD-Live enabled discs ripped or modified on-the-fly with AnyDVD HD
(please refer to Fix_BD-Live.txt for more information).

- Minor user interface changes.

"Blu-ray Region Code Remover" - a program to remove Blu-ray region code from Blu-ray rips.

This program removes Blu-ray region code from Blu-ray rips on a hard disk drive to allow playback regardless of region setting of the player.
(To copy a Blu-ray disc to hard drive, please use Blu-ray Disc Ripper (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=129663).)

The program supports removing of region code from Blu-ray titles which check the region of the player by means of BDMV script,
and Java-enabled titles which check the region by BD-J script as well.

The program also allows removing of Prohibited User Operations (PUOs) to provide better user experience while navigating movies.

The program is written in Visual Basic and requires Windows Vista or Windows XP with .NET Framework 2.0 to run.

- Implemented signing of .jar archives with certificates.
- The program now recreates .jar archives, which it has modified, from scratch using SharpZipLib. This fixes the problem with some titles (e.g. "Independence Day", UK) which contain .jar files in some odd zip format.
- Changed the program so that now it will not attempt to modify 'sly/SlyReg.class' file in .jar archives. Thus .jar files modified by AnyDVD will not be modified again.
- Removed a check and warning message which required the selected folder to be a Blu-ray movie folder for "Create Logfile" button to work. You can now use this button to create a comprehensive list of files and subfolders in selected folder.

Note: This bug only affects titles which were ripped with AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 or later with "Remove BD+ protection" option enabled and which have both BD+ and region check by MovieObject.bdmv, like "Live Free Or Die Hard". If you used "Blu-ray Region Code Remover" to remove region code from such titles, please copy MovieObject.bdmv file from the original disc (with AnyDVD enabled) to movie's BDMV folder on a hard drive and then run "Blu-ray Region Code Remover" again.

31-Mar-2008: Version 2.0 released. It does not use 'classes.zip' file anymore. It includes java .class file parser and supports removing of region code from ALL BD-Java titles, as well as ALL BDMV titles.

26-Mar-2008: Updated 'classes.zip' file to support "I, Robot" (US).

25-Mar-2008: Updated 'classes.zip' file to support "Independence Day" (US), "Independence Day" (UK), "Die Hard 3" (US) (and possibly some other titles).

Here are some suggestions for your program "Blu-ray Region Code Remover 1.0":

1. Please also add the possibility to remove DVD Regions and RCE from DVD ripped to harddisk.
Like that, the program could become "Disc Region Code Remover," useful for BOTH DVDs AND BDs

2. As far as I know (I have no BD discs / drive to test it), the commercial players do not play Blu-ray discs from harddisk, so please add a "Preview" option (with full screen and audio) that could also support Region-DVDs, so that the program can be used as a simple player.

3. You could add the rip option of your "Blu-Ray Disc Ripper" and a rip option for Region-DVDs, so the program could be a player AND a ripper.

On the Internet, there are also discussions about the development of a new BD player which should be free and not Region-locked.
The authors of The KMPlayer ( http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php ) say if there were any free BD filters, they could be added to KMP without any problems (Because of its many features, KMP would be the perfect basic player). Wouldn't this be an interesting challenge?

FreeDVD only removes DVD protections. It does not remove BD protections, and does not rip discs (neither DVDs nor BDs) to harddisk.

I think if these option were added to the Blu-Ray Region Code Remover, we would have ONE program for BOTH BDs AND DVDs.

Free DVD removes several protections from a DVD folder on the hard disk. It removes region code (RC), region code enhancement (RCE), analog copy protection, and user operation prohibitions (UOPs).

Just tried I Robot with the latest classes. PowerDVD chokes on it and displays Region A restriction.

AnyDVD HD 6.4.0 and your tool (with the Independence day classes) both say it is region-free.

It now recognises the Region Coding and says it removed it. Creating an image with ImgBurn now to test and will let you know in about 20 minutes...

Edit: Works like a charm. Boots wirhout problems now, and a quick scan of the disc showed no problems on the rest of the playback. Thanx alot for the quick fix!!!

This is strange. I have this disc too (I used your logfile though when I was implementing it's support). I have just copied most of the files (excluding huge .m2ts streams) to the hard drive and set PowerDVD to Region C. When I opened the folder in PowerDVD (I use version 3319a), it showed a screen "Please use Region A player etc.". Then I ran "Blu-ray Region Code Remover", which removed the region code. Now PowerDVD starts playing the folder just fine. No errors whatsoever. So I think the error you are receiving is due to something else. Did you use UDF 2.5 while creating .iso?

Turned out to be an issue with powerdvd which disappeared after reinstalling it. Works now.

I actually do not do exactly what is suggested in that thread. I do not target .class files with the main function, which checks the region. Instead I target .class files which contain region check functions called by that main function. You can see this if you open my classes.zip file and have a look at class files there and index.xml file. When I was developing this, the only title I had was "Fantastic Four 2". It had those region check functions in 'com/panasonic/common/theatre/LocalBDPlayer.class' file in 00001.jar archive. I thought that maybe such files are reused from title to title, and one such file recompiled for 3 regions and included in my database will cover many titles. Now I understand that it was rather naive to think that, and I still end up with title-by-title work. But anyway, this is better than nothing. The main thing is that there is infrastructure in place and support for new titles can easily be added.

Version 2.0 of this program is now available. Due to brand new java .class file parser it supports removing of region code from ALL Blu-ray titles.

Latest versions of AnyDVD make modifications to MovieObject.bdmv file to remove some BD+ related info, yet when my program modifies this file, it first copies the original version from the BACKUP folder, then does region code related modifications, and thus it overrides those BD+ related changes in this file. The fix is coming soon.

are you saying that anydvd is modifying the main movieobject.bdmv but not its backup?
if so then this bug should be reported to slysoft.

No, why should it modify files in the BACKUP folder? They are not used for playback anyway. Also, I would still prefer the BACKUP to have the original version of this file.

AnyDVD sometimes guesses wrong about the region in 'Automatic' mode, and after region code modifications are made in movieobject.bdmv, it is not possible to apply them again using different region. That is why I was first copying this file from the BACKUP folder in the first place.

Because the backup file is a backup, not an alternate version.
Its so if the disc is damage and the player cant read the main file it will try to read the backup.

The "backup" folder is not a anydvd invention to backup the original, the backup folder is part of the blu-ray specification, they are supposed to be the same.

Actually, now I'm not sure. I mean, the problem does exist and the fix is coming, but it should only affect movies which have both BD+ and region check by MovieObject.bdmv, like "Live Free Or Die Hard", for example. In case of your movie the region check is done by BD-Java script, and my program does not modify MovieObject.bdmv, unless you select "Restore the original region code" option. And since in your log MovieObject.bdmv is different in BDMV and BDMV\BACKUP folders, you didn't. What exaxtly is the problem with the playback? What message do you get?

I created an ISO with imgburn 2.4. I got 'no disc in drive' error in PDVD 3730. I went back and created a missing META folder in BDVM, then re; ISO'd it. Then I got 'region code' error. I ran region code remover, then it loaded (no errors) but froze at blank screen, no menu or anything. I then recreated the original, with folder fix, and changed PDVD to region 'B' and it worked ,so I'm assuming it's something wrong with the region code remover.

Can you please tell whether region removing worked for ID after I made modifications for this particular movie? Also, can you please rip this disc with new version of AnyDVD with BD+ removing enabled, then run "Blu-ray Region Code Remover 2.0" (with Region B, I suppose), and then check whether it plays or not in PDVD set to region A or C. I don't know which version of PowerDVD you are using, but can you please also create an .iso with ImgBurn (with UDF 2.5) and try to play the mounted iso as well (with recent versions you will have to it anyway). Frankly, I don't know what could be the problem with this movie. Everything looks fine for me.

I re extracted it and tried it in pdvdd3730, but still gives the region code error... I will try again tomorrow (in dept) and report back.

Seriously: the real main use of AnyDVD HD is (at least that's my observation) to actually allow people to play their discs on an HTPC (whether or not the region code matches or the hardware is or is not HDCP compliant).
So the backup folders really don't make much sense.

If the differing backup folder ever becomes an issue, rest assured, the following update of AnyDVD will act accordingly :)

So you actually spent some time analyzing how my program works? :) That's cool!

I was thinking about the possibility that some people might run "Blu-ray Region Code Remover" on titles which were already modified by AnyDVD. I will definitely test it when new version of AnyDVD with better support of BD-J region code is available. As it comes to modifications to .class files, I'm pretty confident in the .class file parser I wrote. It modifies the code very carefully, recalculates offsets in all control transfer operations, in tableswitch and lookupswitch operations and in exception tables, and recalculates number of zero bytes in tableswitch and lookupswitch. I'm less confident in the way I treat the content of META-INF folder in .jar files, and I don't touch CERTIFICATES folder at all. May be that's why there are some problems with "Independence Day" (UK).

But in general, as you probably saw, I target the very root functions of BD-J region code check, so I hope if new version of AnyDVD still misses some titles, my program will finish the job. :)

I tried to Remove Region Coding from Step Into Liquid which I purchased from the States and it doesn't work.

I used BR RCR v2.4 and selected Region A to remove, then tried playing with AnyDVD enabled using ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater and it came up with the same Incorrect Region Message on playing.

Any suggestions??? btw I'm in Australia with a Region B PS3 which is ultimately what I want to play it on, but I'm not going to burn it out to a BD-R until I'm sure the coding has been removed.
I can handle some DVD-R coasters, but at $16 a pop for BD-R - no thanks!!!

Interesting... I thought we (this program and AnyDVD) have already covered all possible Blu-ray region coding. :) Is this some new type of region coding or a modification of two known types? And even though AnyDVD will soon support it, I'm going to buy the disc to investigate it, too. Are there other discs, except "Step Into Liquid", which have it?
