Hi!

I put this in software players because it's only on MPC and MPC-HC that I have this problem.

I backed up my copy of Aeon Flux and re-encoded it from VC-1 (which it was on the disc) to h.264 to save space on my HTPC. I used Level 4.1 with 4 reference frames, 3 B frames and no B pyramids so that it would be compliant with the UVD engine on my ATI HD3650. I set the average bitrate at 8000 and was able to compress it to 5.2Gig with no noticable loss of quality using MeGUI, HD-DVD profile.

When playing the resultant file back in MPC or MPC HC the file would freeze at 1:09 in the movie. This happened whether I used the new MPC-HC Video Decoder that can make use of UVD, or the software decoding version of that program. I also got the same results using Core AVC and Cyberlink's Decoder.

I tried the same file in Windows Media Player and in KM Player using each of the above codecs (except the MPC Decoder) and the video did not freeze at all.

I did another re-encode using the PS3 profile in MeGui with the same parameters as above. This time the movie stuck at 1:10 in MPC and MPC-HC. I looked at statistics and the buffer had gone down to zero. This file, also played fine on WMP and KM Player.

Is there a buffer setting that this file is tripping? Or is there a way I can adjust a setting to end the freezing? I've had success playing other HD encodes on MPC-HC and I absolutely love it and don't want to abandon it.

Thanks!

Hi!I backed up my copy of Aeon Flux and re-encoded it from VC-1 (which it was on the disc)1) What is the type of DVD of the disc you copied from (standard DVD, HD-DVD, BluRay)?

2) What software and procedures did you use to first rip it to your hard drive?

1. It was an HD-DVD

2. I ran AnyDVD to rip to my hard drive. I then used EVO Demux to demux the stream into vc1 and audio.

Then I probably took extra steps because while I've backed up most of my standard DVD collection, I'm still new at handling HD backups. I imported the vc1 file into vc12avi to create several avi video files (due to limitations in the program.) I merged the video into one large avi file using VirtualDubMod.

I loaded MeGui and used my large avi file as the video and the demuxed audio file as my audio.

These extra steps might have created some corruption in the file, but I still don't understand why it only seems to be an issue in MPC and MPC-HC. I appreciate your help.
