Worth Watching For Toshiba Upscaling DVD Players

Now that Toshiba has pulled out of HD battle, they look like they are about to release new standard DVD players with new UPSCALING/UPCONVERTING chipset.

Rumors seem to suggest that the pictures created will be very very close to true Hi Def or even indistinguishable.

This is great news for all of us with good DVD collections.

Come on Tosh get your finger out.

P.S. Perhaps we should bug Toshiba with phone calls, let them know there's a big market out here. That might hurry them.

If they use the same upscaler that's in their HD-DVD players, then it would make them a leader in this field, since their upscaler is second only to the obscenely expensive players.

Thanks I.S. for reply. Have you an HD player. have you the model number. I will use it for upscaling if they dont hurry. They would be crazy to miss out on this market and should advertise heavily.

Look for the Toshiba HD-A3 - Last week Circuit City $99US, Tiger Direct $82US. Check Amazon.com as well.

The upconverting is remarkable (Yes, I have one ;>})...

BTW - It upconverts commercial, pressed DVDs ONLY via an HDMI connection - BUT upconverts burned DVDs (BOTH DVD+R and DVD-R, despite the documentation referring to only DVD-R) via either HDMI or a component connection...

@rotty: I don't have one, but have read numerous reports and reviews about Toshiba's HD-DVD players, and one thing consistently mentioned was their upscaling for standard DVDs.
