View Full Version : Repeated error in Shrink on Hot Fuzz WS R1.

I'm trying to back up this movie, but on the first rip, after PGCEdit, as soon as I tried to open the files with Shrink, I got this error. So I processed it with FixVTS, and it went through the initial analysis, and THEN threw the same error just as it got to 100% on the initial analysis. So I cleaned the disk, re-ripped it, and it still errors-out just as it reaches 100%. I processed the 2nd rip with FixVTS, but it does the same thing.

Is this a problem with this title, a problem with scratches on my original DVD, or a problem with Shrink?

I've backed up plenty of other titles with no problem, including just before this one. I haven't tried to burn another title since I got this error, but I have opened other DVDs (old rips) successfully with Shrink. This one won't open - after Shrink crashes, and I restart it, it shows the previous successful folder when I try to Open Files. I've rebooted a few times with no change. There's over 5G free space on that drive.

Hi!

The R1 version has no special or newer protection.

Try cleaning it again - and then try ripping it with good ol' DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4. If you are still unable to get a 100% good rip, return the DVD to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement...

I'm satisfied that it's as clean as it's going to be, and I don't even have old Decrypter installed any more. So I'll exchange the original DVD & try again.

Thanks.

It's not looking good...

I got a replacement disk, and I just started ripping, but I noticed something I forgot to mention in my first post. When I open the DVD with HD Decrypter, it takes about 7 progress bar passes to open it. The first disc was about the same. Normally, even with a Disney/Sony disc, it's open in about 1/4 of the first progress bar (about the edge of the disc picture). But both of these original Hot Fuzz discs have taken MANY progress bar passes for HD Decrypter to open.

Does that tell us anything?

The rip is progressing at about the normal rate: total time is estimated around 23 min. I'll post again when the rip is complete & I check it with Shrink.

BTW
I didn't clean this one - I just threw it in, but it looked OK.

Big surprise: it's not happening.

The first rip got to about 15%, and (like a DA) I accidentally ejected the original (WHY doesn't Decrypter lock the drive?), but I hit RETRY & let it continue during supper. But it stalled around 30% after about an hour & a half with an estimated 9 to go. So I cancelled that rip, deleted the directory & a few others, emptied the recycle bin, and restarted the rip.

Now I'm 15 min. into it, with an estimated 0:00:00 to go, hanging at 0.04% progress.

Is it bad karma? Did I piss someone off somewhere?

I'm closing Decrypter, cleaning the disc, & starting over. If it hangs up, I'll reboot & try again.

23 minutes later, it's ripped, and Shrink is throwing the SAME error on this title only. It had no trouble with another disk.

Does the rip (before using DVd Shrink) play properly on your PC?

Try cleaning out the following directory - and then try using DVD Shrink:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink

Maybe consider another ripping solution. If, as setarip says, it has no newer protection, does it open in DVD Shrink alone, (without any external ripping or preprocessing)?

I didn't realize Shrink would open an encrypted disc. Yes, it opens & completes deep analysis on the 2nd original. So right now, I have Shrink it ripping to the HDD so I can PGCEdit it before burning.

Any idea what Decrypter did to cause Shrink to fail? I did dump that Shrink analysis folder.

Your edits probably messed something up.

No, it was failing on the rip (see post #4) - before I had a chance to edit anything. Then when I got FabDecrypter to rip it again, it failed when I tried to open the raw rip in Shrink, before any PGCEditing. So it was definitely FabDecrypter that was causing the problem.

Any idea what Decrypter did to cause Shrink to fail?DVDShrink is fairly rigid with regard to DVD-compliance, whgereas, in the past, DVDFabHD Decrypter hasn't always produced fully DVD-compliant (Though playable) rips.

As I asked previously, does the DVDFabHD Decrypter rip (before using DVD Shrink) play properly on your PC?

IDK - I think I have a few software DVD players installed, but I never use them. I only rip/burn on the PC. I do all my playing/watching with my settop & portable players.

But if FabDecrypter had some inherent problem, wouldn't it affect ALL my rips? I've ripped/burned literally 100s of titles with it, and this is the ONLY one that exhibited this problem.

What version of DVDfab HD decrypter are you using? 4.1.2.0 is currently the latest.

With R2 I have not been able with DvdfabHdDecrypter either. After 12 progrebass, bored I have stopped it

AnyDvd + Clonedvd does the job.

4.0.5.0 is what I'm using - I thought it was current when I started this thread, but maybe not. I remember updating it VERY recently before this problem, but I don't remember exactly when that was.

But if FabDecrypter had some inherent problem, wouldn't it affect ALL my rips? Not necessarily - The apparently automatically "On" "Path Player" function is appropriate for some DVDs but not others...
