View Full Version : How to cut from 4:3 to 16:9 live in Player?

Hi,
the title already tells my question:
I have a 16:9 Monitor but a lot of 4:3 movies. I want to cut the top and the bottom part off, to get an 16:9 video (with missing parts, but fullscreen), but not persistent, just live in the player. I tried some options in the ffdshow video decoder, which is able to fill it with black (crop), but then I have a black frame around my "16:9" movie...
Is there anything (player, filter, decoder...) that does what I want (for Windows) in an usable way? I don't want to recode my stuff...

What I usually do on such cases is zoom until the loss (cropped beyond the screen) at the top/bottom is the most I can bare. The width will not necessarily be full on your display, but it would probably cover larger area of the display than the original 4/3 video.

To zoom, if you use MPC, you can use the numeric keypad with 9 and 1 keys. If you use SMPLAYER you can use w and e keys iirc. Other players might have other zoom controls, some even specific for different display aspect ratios.

In mpc use "Touch Window From Outside", it's in view=>video frame.

That is what I've searched for! Thanks!
It would be charming if this option would be in my favourite player, the ZoomPlayer. If its abilities correlate with the name it should be able to do so, but I only found the hard zoom presets (accessible using the number keys), which are not useable. If nobody has an idea, I will from now on use mpc as my standard player.

Zoom player, as the name implies, is able to zoom/stretch/move anyway you want. RTFM.
