VMD news: followup?

Saw the news item about VMD. Not being familiar with it, I wonder what the word is here. 10 layer possiblity? Pipe dream? Can a player focus 10 layers reliably?

they've won the physical media war
we still have tons of options for HD streaming

imo cracking AACS/BD+ is kind of a lost cause now
we should move on to taking out HMDI so we can just extract the raw frames
this will also allow us to unlock a bunch of CE for digital broadcasts that are currently locked
but that plan has flaws too I bet

I was´nt sure to put this in the news or general discussion.
I´m still hoping the red lasers not dead.
I just could´nt see my mum or anyone I know downloading firmware cause their keys have been revoked :confused:
I´m sure this will put a lot of first time HD seekers off a little.

Even if they do sink, it´s still good to see some David and Goliath type battles going on :)

I was reading about how the bootlegging sweatshops could also have some influence. as the volume of dvd´s they must buy, would have a big effect on blank media sales.

Sure, this is my point, there's no room for a second disc format!
As for HD streaming, I doubt it will see the light of day anytime soon. Remember SD streaming? I don't ;). Even Apple's attempt has ended up as an uncharacteristic stumble by them.
Streaming has never taken off, and barring a huge change in the adoption rate for HTPCs I doubt it will take off anytime soon.

theres already tons of small streaming services being piloted its only a matter of a 2-3years

since toshiba gave up so easily (at this point i have so many doubts... did they got $$$ from sony? or sony "promised" to sell them their chip facility (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080220/tc_afp/japanelectronicschipcompanytakeoversonytoshiba_080220062209) and share the revenues?) i dont think a minor company can fight against sony.
However on the paper, VMD is promising, but studios are almost all on the blu-ray boat...
