Stage6 Shut Down On 28th of February

According to Tom (aka Spinner), a Stage6 user and an employee of DivX, Inc. Said that "Operation of Stage6 is a very expensive enterprise that requires an enormous amount of attention and resources that we are not in a position to continue to provide."

So! This is it then, the final frontier of Stage6. Now the time has come an end. I want to tell this that there is no other video site that exists of the uniqueness and the best quality of video experience on the World Wide Web than Satge6 and its ease of use watching downloading and uploading. No video site that can do the power of divx. I will really going to miss Satge6 and I will never going to forget.

Here is what, Sir Isaac Newton had said:

"I don't know what I may seem to the world, but as to myself, I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea shore and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me".

It means when one die a new will be born. I hope they not regret this after 3 or 5 years more. You can not stop the feature by shutting down.

The stage6 site now directs you to veoh.com. I tried it out of curiosity. Every video I try says "Loading..." and remains that way forever.

Dailymotion (http://www.dailymotion.com/hd) and Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/HD) do HD. How well they do it I don't know.

Yes I agree with you. I liked stage6's design very much . Simple and easy to navigate. I was browsing stage mainly for music clips. Now There is no alternative :( Most sites transcode your files . Quality sucks because they use low bitrates with single pass :( BTW Vimeo looks nice but it also has poor quality. Blip.tv at least allows you to stream untouched .mp4 with your Flash Player even at 720p :)

Think about it... A good video sharing site would probably want to still host all the videos, so the users could still watch less popular videos. Also, to make it more efficient, a plugin or app would need to be installed on the system so the user would automatically share their videos. (The incentive to get the plugin/app is so you can partake in other's uploading instead of just the main server, which will not be as fast as traditional video sharing sites)

the main thing is if you have custom player (like stage 6) then bandwidth can't be an issue if you conform that to p2p -> which leads to a question: what exactly is the problem?

I will be trying to open up a new HD Video share site in about 3 months. The donation site I will be trying to set up in about 2 weeks...

Please note it will be a donation / Banner add based site meaning Servers & Bandwidth will be the Most of the out go. But due to the fact I live in Utah, Home of the Fiber Optic Empire Utopia it will be cheaper then most and a lot faster...:)

What I have to do is convince some banks to fund a project based souly
on a gamble... That Donations will Come and pay the bills...

Servers and Bandwidth Cost $$$ to set this up I am going out on a limb and will be applying for loans and grants to get this going...

p2p streaming may be possible, but its counter-productive. THe whole idea behind p2p is that all the peers in the swarm get random parts so even if the source leaves, there will still be enough between peers.
To stream a video, you would have to get it all in sequential order, unless you like skipping all over a movie at random places. THis completly negates the idea behind p2p.

mininova started a song streaming thing, but thats not AS bad because the files are only like 3mb each, but with full HD...


Please correct me if i'm wrong and there's another way to do this.

It's famous phrase of Newton. But is it correct to compare Newton with Divx's team? Newton was first scientist who explained some important phenomenons of nature and one of the first who introduced a differential calculation into math language. He was a pioneer inventor and investigator.

Were they first in streaming videos? No, actually stage6 was answer and copy of recently born Youtube.

you can alter the piece preferences in most modern P2P
in fact I can even do it with generic utorrent
let alone a custom BT client

I tried that site out, but it doesn't look like any of the videos are up and running at the moment. The "Site Admin" "Justin" had this to say:
The new template should be fully functional in a couple weeks, at which point, we will get a dedicated server.

I had the same problem yesterday but evrything seems to be back up and functioning. Yes the green screen looks terrible but it's only been that way for 2 days...before that it looked great so I can only assume after their work is done it will look great once again. Let's try to spread the word about this site and with our help and donations we can make this a new place to show off our high quality Divx videos...no place else on the web hosts HD videos with the great 1080p quality that we can upload here!!! Let's make it our new home !!!

I had the same problem with Opera...But when I used Internet Explorer everything worked GREAT!!! I'll post that question on their forum and ask them!!!

Yeah well thanx for all the support the two dollars gained went to buying a hamburger. cheers to Mcdonalds dollar menu... I spent over $50,000 dollars on data base servers and cache servers 2 firewalls an a Fiber Optic splitter... Was about to hook them up when I got the mail... One letter later a phone call ensued lawyers got involved and now no web site no nothing... so I thanx to the two ppl who gave me lunch and I am out...

I sold the servers pre set for web front video playback to A person I knew who said he could use them for his business...

I paid my debt and now ready to go on with life...

Use QT Lite, or QuickTime Alternative. I prefer the former, as I already have MPC, and the only difference is the latter has MPC bundled.
