View Full Version : a too small filesize with DivX 4.12

I just encoded American Beauty (117 min) with Gordian Knot 0.23 for 2 CDs and ended up with 1290MB (without sound: 1037MB)instead of 1400MB.

Settings:

- 2 audiostreams (--alt-preset 128 -B 224)
- 704 x 288
- Compressibility Test: 85 %

Does this problem depend on the high Bits/(Pixel*Frame) setting??

Thanks in advance...

answer can be found right inside the program (help tab - it's there to be read.)

Also, side point here, why would you put an upper limit of bitrate on an ABR mp3?

You will get better results if you use simply: --alt-preset 128

Thanks for your quick response wef and elgan123. :)

Can I assume your encoding your audio seperately? AFAIK Gknot doesn't support the --alt-preset commands due to the LAME DLL not supporting them yet. I also agree with elgan123, just use --alt-preset 128

No, MaTTeR, I'm not encoding the audio seperately. I just replaced the lame.exe and lame_enc.dll and it works fine.

I followed doom9's guide. Divx 4.12, VBR MP3 128k, 1CD(705Mb)

I always gets to small files, is this normal?

No big deal since I have manually entered that I want a filesize of 739Mb which always gives a filesize of 703Mb(fit perfectly onto a CD-R).

NO, it's not normal!

I encoded American Beauty again and finally got an 1400,00MB file (exactly :D).
All I had to do is stick to the "rules":

DivX 4.xx -> Bits/(Pixel*Frames)->45% - 55% Compressability Test

So good luck ;)

Strange.....I have those problems.....compressability is around 53% Bits/pixel x frame is around 0,22

Same with me,
seems to be a Problem in DivX4 with certain movies.
I always get 670 MB, going for 730 now and see if it fits.
