New DRM?

I noticed some sites "claim" to use a new type of DRM.Saying that there WMV formated files are digitally watermarked per individual downloads.I dont see how this is possible.A digital watermark needs to be applied during encoding i thought?I just fail to see how they can watermark a video as your downloading it with information about the individual (example username/password, or IP addy)

Have i missed something, or is this just a scare tactic?

Before anyone jumps on me, Im not trying to get around it,im just curious if this is possible,and if so why hasnt this gone mainstream like the dreaded DRM crap?

an ongoing trend seems to be in muxing 'client-specific' info into the files purchased, for tracability in case of leaks... the amount of info muxed into the files can be a significant privacy violation, hence why near-unique hashes or id numbers are used for that, instead of data in human-readable form -like name, etc...-)
