View Full Version : demuxing divX, possible??

1. I was wondering if I could get all the files back out of a divx encode to re-encode differently.

The main reason I'm doing this is because when I DivX'd The Fast and The Furious it came out good and looks good on my computer but when I play it on a tv it seems super small so. I don't know enough about this stuff yet as I'm still just fine tuning everything.

2. Does this problem pertain to ratio 16:9/4:3 (because I did it in 16:9 like dvd2avi said) or something to do with ZOOM.

I hope someone can help, thanx ppl.

it would be best to get the source dvd and start again, compressing an already heavily compressed source will give much worse results.
it is most likely the frame size that is making the picture too small

About demuxing the divx:

Use virtual dub

File/Save Wav... saves the audio stream (rename it to .mp3)

Audio/No Audio and then File/Save Avi gives you the videostream.

so if I did the 4:3 instead of the 16:9 that it would look bigger on a tv screen, right. Okay well I will redo it I guess I don't really have any choice. but Thanx man.

zoomplayer http://pisho.net/dvdgenie/zplay230.exe

dont mess around with the 4:3 and 16:9 settings, use 4:3 if the source is 4:3 and 16:9 if the source is 16:9 using the wrong one will give an odd looking picture

so there's no sense in even dl'ing it then is there, cuz if I'm only to play 16:9 with 16:9 then it's not going to make any difference to getting a bigger picture and I might as well just redo the movie again in 4:3 instead of 16:9, right. But does it ruin the film quality if I do a movie that's 16:9 in 4:3??!

thanx guys

when you say you get a small picture what exactly do you mean?
dont change the aspect ratio unless you want the image to look stretched/squashed badly

Dionysus

I mean it's just smaller than the size if I were to play the actual dvd. So when i play the dvd it's that size and then when I play my divx copy it's smaller.

so by smaller you mean it not playing in full screen mode, the video is not stretched out to fill the whole screen?

does anything looked unusually stretched? like is everyone too tall?

or are they too short?

sounds like your tv out card is producing something which is called overscan, the image does not fit the screen. if your chipset is supported then the program TvTool should solve your problem www.tvtool.de

no my video card is good cuz I have played other movies and they turned out fine. I dont' mean that the picture isn't fitting all the way accross the screen I'm just saying that I want it bigger cuz it just seems way too small for a 16:9 compared to other movies I've done in 16:9.?? Can I re-encode with 4:3 or will that screw things up in which case I'm going to have to live with the 16:9 screen?!

UHT

ahh i see. so you mean vertically the picture isnt very large, its not very tall. that may well be because the movie itself is heavily letterboxed as the aspect ratio is a very wide one. cant think what else it would be to be honest

Dionysus

is there anything I can do without stretching it using zoomplayer??

if the film was made that way then thats the way it was made. if you have the source dvd to hand try playing that on ur tv and see if the aspect is the same

if you decide to reencode the dvd, just crop another 20-30 pixels off of each of the sides. then when resizing, with the proper aspect ratio of course, you will have a taller video.

please note, not too many folks really like this option, as you are losing video information. but it may be more to your liking.

whatever you do, don't mess with the aspect ratio, noone likes a vertically challenged video.

okay thanx guys, I guess I'm just going to have to live with this ratio or see how "vertically challenged" they will look fi i were to do it in 4:3.

thanx again ppl.
