flash player is a bad scaler.

we were first very impressed by the newly added video capabilities of flash player (h264 support). we made a flash site that shows big size movies. we have a layout that lets the user scale the movie to fit his screen size. i now am disappointed: flash is a very bad scaler. as soon as the movie gets bigger than 100% it gets really pixi. the "hardware accelerated" fullscreen option doesn't help either. the same file scales very beautiful in quicktime player. i guess they're using kind of a bicubic algorithm. i think it's really a shame that the company that gave us tools like photoshop and after effects now published a software that can make movies look so ugly. seems like adobe just bought the h264 sdk from mainconcept and implemented it very lousy. altough scaling also looks bad with on vp6. or am i missing something? what are your experience with this?

Properly implemented bicubic is a pretty good scaling algorithm (much better than bilinear that many graphics cards use). I'd guess they're using nearest neighbour or something similar if you see scaling artifacts.
