This is my first post here at Doom9, so hi all! :D
I've read quite a lot of posts regarding this subject but none have mentioned anything about hardware accelerated x264 in Vista x64. I have an 8800GT 512MB (169.25 WHQL drivers) which I've heard uses Purevideo 2.
The user TheShadowRunner mentioned that CL264dec.ax version 1.99.0.1405 works perfectly for decoding 720p mkv x264's, but that version is nowhere to be found... I tried using the latest version of PowerDVD (7.3 Build 3730) but it doesn't even show an error message when I try to play my mkv x264's. God I hate PowerDVD. Anyways, I located PowerDVD's CL264dec.ax and copied it to System32 and SysWOW64 but "regsvr32 CL264dec.ax" won't register the file, it just gives me the following error:
The module "CL264dec.ax" may not compatible [sic] with the version of Windows that you're running. Check if the module is compatible with x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of regsvr32.exe.
So, what can I do to make hardware accelerated x264's possible? Is it even possible today?
