AutoGordianKnot and similar (powerful to say) software convert those ts (transport streams) into "PC-meaningful" formats (like .avi and likes).

But how to convert these files, for example .avi into .ts (or .trp) to be able to use MyBook directly on satellite receiver? I'm asking about the opposite way conversion:)

I've literally scrutinized the web but with no avail. :search::rolleyes:

Basically, the process is the reverse...
1.) convert the x264/xvid video into mpeg2 video
2.) convert the mpeg2 video into mpeg2 .ts

For the first step, look into the AVI to DVD/SVCD/MPEG2 guides on these sites:
http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm
http://www.videohelp.com/guides/category/how-to-convert-to-dvd-mpeg2-4;10#4;10

For the second step, making the mpeg2 program stream into a transport stream, look at TsRemux:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125447
or find other software that can read mpeg2 program streams and re-save them as transport streams. (VideoRedo Plus should be able to do this.)

I am grateful for your answer. Thank you. :thanks:

I have followed 5 or so conversion guides, tried many different converters (for step 1: converting into mpeg2), but now I realised that converting it properly sure takes some skill. I've blindly played around with those programs and I got enormous files with substaintal loss of quality.

For step 2 I can say that TsRemux is pretty much straightforward and therefore fool(that would be me:rolleyes:)proof.

Is there any program out there that would also make step 1 (converting into mpeg2) a foolproof process (perhaps some AutoWizard or something:))?

enormous files: how big are you talking? SVCD MPEG2 bitrates are commonly ~2000 kbps, while DVD MPEG2 is often 3000-8000 kbps. Your average Mpeg4 ASP/Xvid/DivX 120 minute, 1-CD transcode is ~700 kbps, a 2-CD version ~1400 kbps. The filesizes will go up proportionally.

loss of quality: you get generation loss with every transcode...just like copying analog tapes from one to the next to the next. The mpeg2 encoder settings will also make a difference. I don't know which mpeg2 encoder is best, but I recall that for mpeg1, there was a Panasonic encoder that did well in tests way back when (~2001 ?). That's ages ago, so it is quite possible there are better encoders out there now.

Quite simple to "stream" MPEG2 to a file from practically anything VLC can play. www.videolan.org
I do it frequently to convert WMV-HD into MPEG2 TS or PS files that I can watch on my Roku Photobridge.

You may want to try avidemux:
