next time be more specific when talking about downloaded material. there are a lot of ppl coming here with pirated downloads asking for help.
since this board is on the "edge" of legality, moderators should prevent discussions of illegal stuff at all costs and with a short time response... otherwise you may as well say "bye bye" to doom9.org...

well i didnt know who locked it cos they didnt tell me otherwise id pm them

im using ffdshow to decode,splitter i dont know, i use media player classic and i get artifacts all over the screen every few seconds

--> Pretty sure you can talk to any mod.

--> Try installing Haali's splitter.

--> Try re-installing ffdshow.

--> See if using VLC fixes the problem. (Not saying it's a permanent solution)

--> See if other players (WMP, etc.) fix the problem. (Not saying it's a permanent solution)

--> Try remuxing the MKV to MP4 and see if that fixes the problem. (Not saying it's a permanent solution)

could be the video itself.....speedruns are usually not very well done in terms of quality. Even the so called high quality encodes are still pretty poor.

Do you have a link to the video you are playing?

well it's either the encoding method or the filters your using for playback. VLC will give you a better idea if it's the codecs your using or if it's an encoding problem

its a splitter problem i think cos x264 in avi has no artifacts but x264 in mkv has artifacts

There are all sorts of possible artifacts, and they can come from various parts of the decoding chain.
Guessing games aren't fun at all, please post screenshots of the artifacts, or links to the video's, or explain what you see more precisely :)

IMHO the fact your mkv's have artifacts and avi's haven't is more a coïncidence due to their content.

Yeah... try remuxing one of them to MP4 or AVI... does it still block then? That answer will let us know if it's a Matroska splitter problem.

how do i remux something? sorry i dont know much about encoding

Install MKVtoolnix. Open the MKV in MKVextractGUI. Once the tracks load, checkmark the video and audio and click Extract.

Get YAMB. You may have to also get MP4Box.exe and place it in the YAMB directory, I'm not sure. Go to MP4 Creation, and Add the video and audio you extracted (the video should end in .264 or .h264). Save it. If it asks you to set a frame rate, in the box that pops up, type it in in the appropriate box.

And there's your MP4.

i get the artifacts in vlc too, does vlc have its own decoder

If you had posted a screenshot, these silly guessing games would have ended and we would have found a solid solution/answer by now.

Making screenshots for dummies :
- Play the video, and pause it at some point where the artefacts are visible.
- Press "Prnt. Screen", somewhere in the top-right corner of your keyboard.
- Open paint and press ctrl+v (to paste the screenshot into paint).
- Go to file > save as ..., and save it go jpg format (tolkienartefact.jpg)
- Come back to the forum and attach the screenshot to a new post, or upload it to imageshack and post a link to the picture in a new post.

Some players have a "grab frame", "save picture" or something similar you can use in case the "Prnt. Screen" doesn't work. You can use any 3rd party screen capturing software you like, it doesn't matter.
(Edit: mplayerc has a "File > Save Image ..." menu, so it's even easier).

There's no reason you couldn't share a screenshot right ? :rolleyes:
