Dose anyone know how the divx desktop works, i know it has to do something with the system calls.

Are you coding a smiler program, if so what language are you coding in... It might be a BIY (build it yourself) type situation.
also you might want to talk with some Divx forum members at http://Divx.labs.com They might give you better advice there...

I am not quiet sure of which language i will be coding, first i want to know the basic idea. do you know any open source code for it.

yes it is a feature in divx web player called desktop dimmer

Ok well I dont know of any opensource Projects that use this dimming effect and I have talked via IM with people at Divx and they tell me that it will be a BIY coded project do to the fact that it is propritory Software Good Luck...

If you arent sure what language to start building with I would suggest VC++ or VC# Express Editions...
(More then less VC++ using the PSDK)http://www.microsoft.com/express/ Join their community and they might be able to assist you in your venture...
