Converting 720p mkv to dvd video

my brother has some 720p x264 videos, in mkv format with ac3 640kbps video and filesizes from 4.36-6.61gb, which he wants to convert to dvd-video, can any1 pls tell me how to do that?

It would very likely be much easier/simpler/faster and result in better quality, to make backup copies of the original source material (presumably DVDs)...
