View Full Version : Which mpeg2 encoder library?

(crossposted from videohelp.com, after I realised that here was probably a better forum for this question than there...)

I'm looking for an mpeg2 encoder that would ideally satisfy the following conditions:

- not based on ffmpeg (which produces output that plays with audio sync issues on my player)
- open source
- not based on the reference mpeg2enc program (which is *way* too slow to be practical)

I'm willing to skip the last two if the encoder is adequately fast (would have to be pretty good though... I'm hoping to improve on the performance of mainconcept's encoder) and is easily integrated (either via an API or command line tool). The first is non-negotiable.

Any suggestions?

I don't think there is anything which is OSS, and yet isn't related to or based on ffmpeg or mpeg2enc. The closest you might find is HC Encoder, which albeit is freeware, isn't open source.

unskinnyboy, you're right. By the way, I've encoded hundreds of VCD, KVCD, SVCD and DVD compliant mpegtwos, all with mencoder (which is also libavcodec (ffmpeg) based)), and I stop to have ANY problems with standalones - by simple move - ENCODE compliant mpeg2, and anyone should know what that is...

Of course, there IS a reason WHY Cinemacraft Pro Encoders have pricing around 1999$. TNSTAAFL.
